Alum Sludge Dewatering

A test trailer was recently set up at the Charleston CPW Hanahan Water Treatment Plant to test a Westfalia Centrifuge. 



Westfalia tested the Model CB505 for percent cake dryness, recovery, and capacity.  The test trailer is a complete dewatering system including:  sludge pump, polymer mixing and feed system, centrifuge and a discharge conveyor for the solids.

The feed rate was varied between 100 GPM and 180 GPM with the operator exploring the capacity of the machine to produce dry cake (20% or better) with 95% or better recovery.  The feed solids ranged from 1.5% to 2.2%.  The cake produced was consistently above 20% solids.



The recovery in the centrate was measured by determining the solids content.  The recovery was consistently in excess of the required 95% hurdle.



Westfalia enjoys a great reputation as a precision centrifuge supplier.  The centrifuges can be operated to a higher degree of performance with less maintenance than competitive products.  In an evaluated bid, Westfalia has enjoyed resounding success as the supplier of choice.

The test trailer is available for sludge testing on an individual basis for those municipalities and industries in the process of evaluating dewatering processes.
